LED Reliability

Aug 23, 2021

The reliability of LED includes electrostatic sensitivity characteristics, service life, environmental characteristics, etc.

Electrostatic sensitivity refers to the electrostatic discharge voltage that an LED can withstand. Due to the high resistivity and short distance between positive and negative electrodes of some LEDs, if the electrostatic charges at both ends accumulate to a certain value, this electrostatic voltage will break down the PN junction. In serious cases, the PN junction can break down and lead to LED failure. Therefore, the electrostatic sensitivity characteristics of LEDs must be tested to obtain the electrostatic discharge fault critical voltage of LEDs. At present, human body mode, machine mode and device charging mode are generally used to simulate the phenomenon of electrostatic discharge in real life.

In order to observe the change law of light performance of LED under long-term continuous use, it is necessary to conduct sampling test on LED, and obtain LED life parameters through long-term observation and statistics.

For the test of LED environmental characteristics, it is often used to simulate various natural attacks encountered in the application of LED, generally including high and low temperature impact test, humidity cycle test, humidity test, salt spray test, dust test, irradiation test, vibration and impact test, drop test, centrifugal acceleration test, etc.
