So why did TRIAC dimming dominate the dimming industry for so long?
Thyristor naturally has its advantages. The development of TRIAC dimming technology has a long history and mature and stable technology. It has been perfectly combined with incandescent lamp and halogen cable lamp, occupying a large dimming market. Using TRIAC dimming technology, the matching installation and use is relatively simple, and only the LED lamps need to be replaced The TRIAC dimmer is widely used in traditional lighting markets such as incandescent lamps, which is in line with people's use habits, has low dimming cost, is compatible with existing lines, and does not need to be rewired.
Then How Does Triac Dimming Work?
When the lamp needs to be dimmed by thyristor signal, the input voltage waveform in the circuit deviates from the sine wave due to the change of thyristor conduction angle, which changes the effective value of the input voltage and realizes dimming by changing the voltage. However, what works here is that during the conduction of the thyristor, a switch in the thyristor potentiometer can adjust the partial voltage ratio of the internal resistance, change its conduction angle and change the effective value of the output voltage, so as to realize the dimming function.
